~Impact Singapore Flyer Has On Singapore~

Night View Of The CDB Area
The economic impact that Singapore Flyer has on Singapore’s economy is that it provides jobopportunities for the locals as attractions require lot of manpower to run the daily operations. As Singapore Flyer is built to attract visitor, this means that most of the visitors are tourists which will bring in more foreign revenue to Singapore. As Singapore Flyer is privately owned, thus, they have to pay taxes to the government which contributes to Singapore’s GDP.

Lighting Of Wheel
Another factor is political impact that Singapore Flyer is currently the largest observation wheel in the world. It improves the profile of Singapore as this iconic structure is known to the international.

Beautiful Lighting
Technological-wise, Singapore Flyer is an
energy efficient structure as the motors are only required to lift the weight of the capsules up to the 12 o’clock position. Thereafter gravity will gradually pull it down. The LED lighting that is used to light up the whole wheel with a dynamic color changing effect is energy efficient which advocates environmentally friendliness. Thus it does not create any pollution and can be used to promote an environmentally friendly environment.

F1 Race Track Below Flyer
For the socio-cultural impact the large crowds that can be seen during special events that are held nearby the floating platform and F1 pit like the F1 night race, national day, New Year countdown. As guest are there to board to capsule hoping to catch a glimpse of the events or fireworks that would be put off during the event. The long queue that is form during such events can ruin the atmosphere and the quality of visitor experience. Therefore their motive is to catch a glimpse of the firework or night race not to enjoy the ride.

Me With My Friend On Flyer

~Why Singapore Flyer Is Highly Ranked on TripAdvisor?~

"World's First Full Butler Sky Dinning"
The main reason why it is so highly ranked on Trip Advisor is because of the stunning panoramic view of the Marina bay and Fullerton area that guests get to see. Thus the core product that guests are buying is the memorable experience. From the review seen at Trip Advisor’s website, many commented that the ride is truly unique and memorable for them. Singapore Flyer also provides other types of flight apart from the normal flights. They have the world’s first full butler sky dinning, high tea flight, signature cocktail flight and Moet & Chandon champagne flight. These types of flight provide guests with unique experiences that best suit their needs and wants. For sky dinning, guest are able to indulge in a fine dining of 4 course meal within two rotations and enjoy the night view of the city. For the drinks flight, guest are entitled to one round of rotation in a special capsule that is designed to provide an ambience to enjoy your drinks accompanied with music from the speaker. Therefore, depending on the guests’ needs, there are various options for the guests to choose from.

Special events such as a wedding solemnization or a birthday party can also be hosted in the capsule. Otherwise, the capsule can also be personalized to hold meetings or any other activities to suit your needs. Within Singapore Flyer there are also other amenities for guest to play, dine and shop.

Wedding Solemnization In The Capsule~Do You Want?
I think that it has successfully promoted itself as the world’s largest giant observation wheel that offers breathtaking panoramic views of the city, not only can that, people can also hold events in their capsules or their event halls.

~Unique Nature and Challenges~

~Drizzling~
The service product is not standardized as it is affected by the weather. During bad weather conditions when the lighting system warning is activated, no guests are allowed to board the capsules for their safety. Even in some circumstances whereby the weather is good but the lighting warning system is activated, guest are still not able to board the capsule till further announcement by the staffs. Another situation would be during rainy days whereby the rain will affect the visibility of the guests. When it is drizzling where visibility is still quite clear, most guests will still continue to take the ride. However, when it is raining heavily, visibility will be greatly affected and staff at the entrance of the Flyer will advise guests on the visibility and it is entirely up to the guest to decide if they want to take the ride. The challenges that Singapore Flyer will face due to the weather is a decline in the number of guest going for the ride. This is especially so when the lighting warning system is activated and no guests are allowed to board the Flyer. Also when there is heavy rain, visibility would be low and guests would not want to board the Flyer as they would not be able to get a good view of Singapore and it will affect their experience and may even leave a negative impression of Singapore flyer.

Less Than 10 Person
Therefore, this lead to another problem which is perishability as a capsule can only accommodate up to 28 people at a time. As the wheel will not stop rotating, losses would be incurred should a capsule passes by the loading area and there are no visitors to be loaded onto the capsule. Most of the time it is hard to fully fill up a capsule unless there is are big tour groups, thus most of the time it would only fill up to less than 20 or 10 guests per capsule. When I board the capsule there were only 8 other people with me and there were still lots of space available. So the capsule that can accommodate to to 28 people is a perishable product as vacant space within the capsule cannot be stored for later use. Therefore it an loss of revenue for Singapore Flyer when capsule are not fully fill up.

Next, the customers themselves are involved in the production process as the product is different for every visitor since they will shape the product in their own image to some extent. If the visitors’ expectations are met, they would enjoy the whole product. On the flip side, if expectations are not met they would most likely be dissatisfied; possibly influencing others and creating a negative image of the Flyer or even lose the future patronage of the guest.

Welcoming Guest With Greetings
Lastly, the staff involved in producing and delivering the product is part of the product itself. The staffs of Singapore Flyer are very friendly and helpful. When I reached the entrance of the Flyer’s gallery, staffs warmly greeted me and this made me feel comfortable. Upon reaching the deck, staffs were once again present to greet you and to explain to you what you can expect to see. Hence the challenge is that it is hard to maintain the attitudes of the staffs for long. If the morale of the staffs low, it will affect their quality of services. Vice versa, when staff morale is high, they are able to provide quality service to the visitors.

Personally, I enjoyed the whole thing therefore I would strongly recommend you to come and experience the Flyer yourself to agree with what I had shared.

~Motivating Factors~

Singapore Flyer, an iconic structure of Singapore, stands at a height of 165 meters above the ground which is equivalent to 42 stories high. So what are the motivating factors they have that can create such an unforgettable experience for so many visitors?

View From The Peak Facing the CDB
Firstly, the core product which refers to the experiences and sensations that you get while on board the capsules as mentioned earlier with regards to the breathtaking views of Singapore’s magnificent cityscape that you get to see from different angles that will really leave you in awe.

Inside The Capsule It Spacious
Secondly, the tangible product which refers to the ferries wheel structures itself. Inside the capsule the air conditioning system makes us feel cozy and the windows are UV protected to shield us from the hot sun. Capsules are fixed onto the wheel frame to make use of gravitational force to keep itself level so as to provide a stable platform. Therefore, while in the capsules you will not feel any movements or vibrations at all, thus, feel free to move around the capsules and enjoy the magnificent view from different angles. Visitors are also able to enjoy a different range of rides. They can choose between normal flights, Singapore sling flight, Moet & Chandon champagne flight or the world’s first full butler sky dinning.

Theme 1960s!
Thirdly, the augmented products are the myriad of dining and entertainment outlets that allow visitors to play, shop and dine. There is a two storey car park that caters to drivers who drove to the attraction. Additionally, there is a variety of restaurants that visitor can dine at. There is a special concept dining place, “Singapore Food Trail”, which provides the nostalgic feel of Singapore in the 1960s. It reenact the past of how the stalls along the roadside do business. Feel free to tuck into local fare such as satay, ice-kachang, rojak, fried oysters and many more. You can also enjoy activities that could be found there, one example would be the flight experience which allows
View Of The 1960 Hawker
you to experience flying in a flight simulator with the guidance of instructors. Otherwise, you can shop for some mementos of Singapore Flyer and Singapore at the Singapore Flyer Gifts retail outlet. Singapore Flyer has also introduced a gallery known as “Journey of dreams” which showcases how the flyer is built which is very educational for people who are interested in knowing how it is built. Personally, after having been through the gallery, I found it very interesting as they made use of one of Asia’s first video technology which is the first inflated Puffer Sphere that uses internal projection.

"Puffer Sphere"

To conclude, Singapore Flyer allows you to have an unobstructed view of this city. I heard that at the peak, you are even able to catch a glimpse of Indonesia and Malaysia if the sky is clear. It also believes that if you make a wish at the peak your wish will come true. To add on, you can choose from a variety of rides that you want. There are also other supporting facilities to play shop and dine.

~Classification and Visitor Market~

Hey Dory,
How are you doing? Heard that you have just finished your studies and you would be visiting Singapore soon. I look forward to meeting up with you if possible. In your last mail, you stated that you have to research on Trip Advisor’s top rated attractions of Singapore. Due to time constraint, you are only able to visit one of the attractions that you have listed out. Therefore, I strongly recommend that you visit the Singapore Flyer. Reason being that only one to two hours is needed to explore the whole place. Hence, you can use the remaining time to indulge in the local food and relax.

"World Largest Observation Wheel"
I would classify Singapore Flyer as a man-made structure which is designed to attract visitors. When I was there to experience it myself, I observed that most of the visitors are not locals. Other observations that I have made are that most tourists are part of tour groups and they are from countries such as China, India and Japan. Most of the tourists are middle-aged and are visiting Singapore with their families. Other free and easy visitors are normally working adults and middle- aged people from neighboring countries like Indonesia and Malaysia or people from European countries. On the other hand, locals normally come with their families or friends as they prefer to come in groups.
